Health in Mind

At Health in Mind, we promote positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland.

If you use our services, volunteer, work with us or take our training courses, we want you to benefit from the knowledge and experience we bring to our work.

We are a people-centred organisation. This means that helping people reach their potential is at the heart of what we do. With the introduction of Self-Directed Support (SDS), you can be in control of your own support.

Many of our services began as a response to people saying their needs were not being met. That meant carrying out research to understand the issues. It meant telling people what we had found out and developing practical solutions. Our information service came about in this way. Our work with BME groups and childhood sexual abuse survivors did so too.

Besides these, we provide support, respite and befriending services. We can also provide housing support in a number of ways. This can mean support in your home or a place in one of our supported flats. We also have day services and counselling/talking therapies – face to face and on the telephone. So when you use our services, you’re also getting access to a wealth of skill and depth of understanding of mental health and wellbeing.

Our values are important to us and we hope that they come across in all that we say and do; we have a positive approach and try to be flexible, creative and caring in all our work.

Key Activities

We have a dedicated team of professional support staff and committed volunteers. They work together to produce a broad and unique mix of individual and group support. We operate across Edinburgh and the Lothians and in the Borders. We also run a Scotland-wide counselling telephone line.

Our Information Resource Centre can provide information relating to Mental Health and Wellbeing. We can answer your questions about self-help, conditions or services. The Centre also runs free, monthly information afternoons.

Health in Mind runs a busy and varied training program. Most courses are open to people outside of the organisation with an interest in Mental Health and Wellbeing issues. Costs vary, but we can help you to identify if payment can be made through an individual learning account (ILA). Training can be delivered to groups in the workplace and tailored to suit the specific needs of your organisation.
